Soldiers chase UNIABUJA students out of hostels

Reportedly on Tuesday morning, soldiers stormed the hostels of the University of Abuja, maltreating defenseless students with no just reasons.

The University Management had on Tuesday directed all students to vacate their hostels before 6am Wednesday.

The students had been protesting against the school’s inability to secure accreditation of certain programmes like Engineering courses. The action later led to the shut of the school.

Sources say the soldiers were reportedly invited to the institution by the University Vice Chancellor, James Adelabu.

An Engineering student who identified himself as Gabriel told DailyPost that “as at 6:30pm on Tuesday, soldiers and students raided the hostel at both campuses and ordered the student to leave”

“We were chased with rifles and sticks, what a shame! And we are in a democracy,” he lamented.

Efforts to get the side of the management’s story were unsuceeful as the Vice Chancellor, James Adelabu, did not respond to text messages sent to his mobile phone.
