20 killed in pipeline fire at Abia


Tragedy struck at Umueke village, Abia State as no fewer than 20 person are feared dead and many other seriously injured due to a pipeline explosion.


According to Vanguard, the fired occurred yesterday when some people from the area were scooping fuel from a vandalised pipepline in the area, which supplies petroleum products from Eleme in the newly opened Osisioma Depot.
Six people were said to have died instantly, while other deaths resulted from severe burns sustained from the vandals.
The Abia State Commissioner for Petroleum and Solid Mineral's Resources, Chief Don Ubani, confirmed the incident and death of 15 persons.
