Meet World's Poorest President

Jose Mujica, President of Uruguay lives in a ramshackle farm, laundry is strung outside his house, water comes from a well in a yard overgrown with weeds, he has two police officers and Manuela a three-legged dog keeps watch over his house.

This might seem hilarious and even ridiculous to some, but don't judge yet.

The president and his wife are hard-working farmers, growing flowers themselves.

Mr. President donates 90% of his monthly salary to charity, in 2012 his annual personal wealth declaration was $1, 800, which was the value of his 1987 Volkswagen Beetle.

This year, he added half of his wife’s assets – land, tractors and a house – reaching $215,000 (£135,000).

That’s still only about two-thirds of Vice-President Danilo Astori’s declared wealth, and a third of the figure declared by Mujica’s predecessor as president, Tabare Vasquez.

Do you still feel its ridiculous? If only some of our leaders would learn that garnering all the nations wealth for you and yours alone is not what this life is all about.
